The first book I read this year was ‘Thing explainer – Complicated stuff in simple words’ by Randall Munroe and it’s an amazing book. Which is even more impressive since it is not a usual book – to say the least. Mr. Munroe, the creator of the exquisite xkcd web comics only uses the most common words (minus profanities) of the English language to describe complicated stuff. The ISS (shared space house) or nuclear reactors (heavy metal power building) are amongst the things he describes.
Following the common phrase ‘if you can’t explain it to a five-year-old you don’t truly understand it’, the book does exactly that. Paired with great drawings of Munroe’s very own stick figure style and funny humor it makes a worthy follow up to his crazy book What if?
